It's Time to Lose Idaho's Dubious Distinction: Legal Child Neglect for Religious Reasons

The State of Idaho exempts parents from prosecution when they medically neglect their children--even permitting them to die--for religious reasons.

While adults have a right to reject medical care for themselves for religious reasons, many Idaho citizens rightly argue that this right does not extend to minor children, nor is any minor child old enough to make such a choice for themselves.

One group, Protect Idaho's Kids (PIK), will be honoring the lost lives of 183 children whose parents needlessly let them die because of their religious beliefs. They will do this by carrying one coffin for each child lost to their parents' legal neglect, in a march through the streets of downtown Boise on February 19, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.
